Jela's Development Initiatives (JDI): A High-Impact Content & Resource Platform for a National NGO

An informational site for a non-profit organisation to better tell their story, showcase their impact, and connect their audience to everything they do.

    About this Project

The newly built JDI website is a comprehensive, multi-initiative digital platform developed for a prominent Nigerian non-profit organization that has impacted the lives of many Nigerians through blood donation, mental healthcare, clean water access, and youth leadership. The primary objective was to replace an outdated platform with a single, highly performant information hub. The platform effectively visualizes multi-sector community impact stats, hosts an interactive digital library and gallery, showcases partner relations, and drives inbound volunteer acquisitions through automated workflows.

    The Problems Identified

    • Broken Mobile Experience: The entry point for mobile devices was completely broken, alienating an estimated 80%+ of the website's visitor traffic.
    • Weak Homepage Narrative: The landing page lacked informational depth, failing to communicate the organization’s mission or guide user behavior effectively.
    • Unengaging History Content: The history page consisted of long, text-heavy narratives that failed to capture the short attention spans of younger demographics.
    • Inefficient Recruitment Flow: The "Work With Us" section lacked structured application pathways to separate full-time careers from volunteer opportunities.
    • Friction-Heavy Document Downloads: The publications page forced direct file downloads without providing summaries, highlights, or previews of annual reports first.
    • Low-Conversion Donation Funnel: Visitors were redirected straight to Paystack with zero emotional context, persuasive narrative, or structured calls to action.
    • Cumbersome Navigation & Layouts: The blog, gallery, and site-wide navigation were unengaging, required excessive clicks, and doubled user browsing times.
    • Unsustainable Legacy CMS: The WordPress setup was highly inefficient, forcing staff to rely entirely on a web developer just to publish basic content.

    How they were solved

    • Mobile Experience: Rebuilt on a responsive Next.js stack with mobile-first layouts across every page (nav, hero, cards, forms), eliminating the broken entry point that was losing the majority of traffic.
    • Homepage Narrative: Restructured into a clear story arc: hero mission statement → "Who We Are" (Vision/Mission/Values tabs) → Core Initiatives → Impact stats → Board → Partners → CTA, giving visitors a guided journey instead of a flat landing page.
    • History/Story Content: Replaced long text blocks with a visual "Our Journey So Far" timeline (2019–2024), broken into bite-sized milestone cards plus a short "2015–2019/2019/Global Vision" narrative arc scannable for shorter attention spans
    • Recruitment Flow: New Careers page with filterable tabs (All / Career / Volunteer) and a separate "Volunteer With Us" pathway, structurally separating full-time roles from volunteer applications.
    • Publications Preview: New "Library" page built as a publications hub (with sorting by date/year) and a smart preview system instead of forcing raw downloads, it's designed to surface previews/summaries before any file access.
    • Donation Funnel: Support page now leads with emotional storytelling, impact breakdowns by naira amount ("₦20,000 = Restore a Mind," etc.), a recurring-giving community (JDITeam100), and multiple structured CTAs before reaching Paystack/bank transfer, replacing the old direct-redirect.
    • Navigation & Layouts: Unified, consistent nav and footer across all pages, with sticky "Become a Servant Leader" CTA blocks and consolidated quick links, reducing click-depth across blog, gallery, and library.
    • CMS: Migrated off WordPress to a modern Next.js + headless CMS setup, giving JDI staff a structured, code-free way to publish content without developer dependency.
